Heritage

Utopia Saddlemakers was founded in May 2014 by Nick Stone and his father Bramwell Stone, a Master Saddlemaker. Having worked in the trade as a Saddlemaker for 20 years Nick wanted to design and develop his own range of saddles offering a superior bespoke collection made to peoples exacting requirements.

The family trade started back in the 1930’s with Sarah Ellen (Nelly) Stone who worked at Jabez Cliff as a football stitcher. Famously crafting an FA Cup final ball in 1931. She later secured an apprenticeship for her son Bramwell Stone under the Apprentice Master Oliver Moreton. Bramwell successfully completed his 7 year apprenticeship at Jabez Cliff which was more recently known as Barnsby Saddemakers.

In 1994 Nick attained his position as an apprentice at E Jefferies & Sons (Jefferies saddlery). He worked at Jefferies for 3 years and then moved to A J Foster Lauriche to further his knowledge and career. After another 3 years he gained a position as Saddlemaker for Albion where he remained for 14 years gaining experience producing internationally renowned saddles respected by the most professional riders.

With the wealth of knowledge and experience obtained over the last 20 years Nick is making customised prestigious saddles under the brand Utopia using the finest materials with a mixture of modern and traditional techniques.
